You might know Speedy.
She died this Wednesday (July 2nd 2025).
The last few weeks weren’t going so well for Speedy, or “Speedje” as we called her. “Dikkie” was also a favorite nickname we gave her.
Speedy was always a very active, talkative cat. She never turned down any food and meowed almost the entire day if she wasn’t eating or sleeping — trying to grab out attention.
But last weeks she wasn’t.
She was tired and in pain.
The decline
In big contrast to how strong she used to be, she now had issues jumping on the couch or chairs. Her favorite places weren’t accessible to her anymore.
We took her to vet last week to check on her.
They told us that they couldn’t find anything — nothing to worry about you might think, this cat is old.
Maybe she’s just getting old.
Blood results, also, nothing.
She got some medication to fight the pain and possible infections and we thought things were getting better.
Until last Monday when she had trouble breathing.
Wednesday it got worse and we took her to the vet again, we couldn’t take her home again — it was that bad.
Poor Speedy couldn’t take it anymore.
That was it.
My father called me straight away that day and I went to see Speedy — I had to be there. Especially since I couldn’t say goodbye to Sky when she passed almost 3 years ago.
She was the most innocent soul
Speedy was the kind of cat that wasn’t mean.
She was just Speedy.
She didn’t always understand how to do certain things.
She was just Speedy.
Since 2011, Speedy was our beloved cat. We almost had her for 15 years, which is a very long time. The majority of our lives contained the presence of Speedy.
We were her entire life.
And now we can’t hear her little meows in the morning, see her dirty paws on the chairs, or have her chase the bugs in the backyard.
We will miss you Speedy.
The end of a friendship
The loss of Sky in 2022 was a big blow for us.
It meant one of our childhood cats would be gone.
Now all of them are.
We will remember you Speedy.
Rest in peace Speedy (10.05.11–02.07.25).
sending love as you lost a big part of your family
I am so sorry. I know how heartbreaking it is to lose a beloved pet. You were both very lucky to have each other for so long.
