We’re in Berlin.
On Tuesday we arrived at the center of the city by train. After traveling for more than 10 hours we’re finally here.
We were supposed to take a direct train from Amersfoort Central Station in the Netherlands to Berlin Central but the Deutsche Bahn thought otherwise.
They kicked all passengers out in Hannover because of technical difficulties and had to find another train to Berlin. Luckily there was one coming that had better comfort and I was able to get a seat reservation for it. (most people didn’t)
1.5 hours later we arrived in Berlin and got something to eat.
Our accommodation isn’t in the center of the city but a little to the east. We have to take a tram of around 45 minutes to get to it.
It’s a bit long but fine if it isn’t full.
Yesterday we went to explore the city.
We bought a 24-hour public transport ticket for the Berlin AB zones, which cost around €10.
These tickets make it so easy and affordable to go around the city with the trams, trains, and metros because Berlin is a pretty BIG city. My girlfriend underestimated this at first and wanted to walk a lot.
But in the end, we used our ticket quite a lot.
We picked the perfect week for Berlin, it’s between 25-28 degrees here now. Maybe it’s a little too much… but I don’t think we can complain about that.
After exiting the tram at Alexanderplatz and looking at the Fernsehturm, we wanted to go for breakfast/lunch at some cafe just outside the city center called “Puffle Bees”.
We both had a cappuccino and a delicious waffle.
It’s a bit expensive, so not recommended if you’re on a low budget, but if you’re looking for something nice and good I’d go here again.
After we finished our delicious waffles we just sat there for a while and looked around what to do next.
We planned a route to go to the “Mauerpark” and then to the “Museum Island” after which we walked along the river Spree and stumbled upon a small restaurant where we had a beer.
We ordered two small beers, but apparently, that was considered weird. The guy that took our orders looked at us a little bit weird in the yes, but never mind, we enjoyed it.
Then we walked a long way to the Berlin Wall, or at least the remainder of it, and had delicious Bratwurst.
It was the end of the day and we were very tired. We thought we would have had more energy at that point but we didn’t so we decided to go back to our accommodation and decide what we’d do for dinner.
My girlfriend eventually came up with this really nice Italian Restaurant where we had great pizza and a double espresso at the end.
Concluding our great first day in Berlin.
